Frank Sarris Library February Events

"One time" events:
  • The Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 10 at 6:30pm.
  • Adults and older teens are invited to sign up to make sweets (chocolate covered strawberries) for their sweeties on February 14 at 2pm. $4 per participant covers all costs.
  • The Fiction Book Club next meets Thursday, February 19 at 4:00 to discuss Emma by Jane Austen. We hope to see you then to hear your thoughts and learn what you'd like to read next!
  • The library's next block party will be Saturday, February 21 at 2pm. We offer soft blocks for the very young, large wooden blocks for pre-school and up, and Legos for older children.
  • The Non-Fiction Book Club will be meeting to discuss Man's Search for Meaning on Saturday, February 21 at 3:00. Why not come share your thoughts on this memoir by Viktor Frankl?
  • The Friends of the Library will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, February 24 at 6:00
Weekly happenings:
  • If you've got an eReader and don't quite know what to do with it, come to the library with your fully charged device any Mondayin February from 12:30-2pm! This is your chance to get familiar with the Overdrive (e-book) system.
  • If your 1st through 3rd graders are suffering from Cabin Fever, bring them to the Library for Play Days on Mondays at 4:30(beginning February 24). Register your children now, and mark your calendar to bring them in to play Hot Potato, Captain Midnightand more. $1 per child per session.
  • Library Explorers meet Mondays at 5:30pm. This is a time for students in grades K-5 to play and discover something new at the library! With a different topic each week, you'll want to be sure to call or stop by to register.
  • The Library Lego Club is your child's chance to collaborate with other Master Builders on their own designs or special building challenges. Builders (kindergarten through middle school) meet weekly on Tuesdays at 5pm.
  • Yarn-a-holics unite! Are you addicted to yarn? Do you have more patterns than you could possibly try in a single lifetime? If you stitch, you're welcome to do it with us! Come to the library and bring whatever cross-stitch, crochet, embroidery or knitting project you're doing and stitch with us every Tuesday at 6pm
  • The Family Night program runs every Tuesday at 6:30. This is a storytime for all ages, and each week explores differently themed stories, crafts, and games. Register by calling the library or stopping by the Children’s Desk.
  • Tail Waggin' Tutors are at the library on Wednesdays (4-6). Call the Children's Department to schedule you're child's session.
  • Do you need help setting up and using an email account? Would you like to learn how to surf the internet or create a document? Call the library to schedule your free, one-on-one session. Thursdays by appointment.
  • Saturdays in February - Popcorn and a Movie! Join us at noon to see a classic movie and eat hot popcorn (you'll need to bring your own drink). There's no charge, but children under the age of 10 must have a caregiver with them.
  • New to the library: Dungeons and Dragons! Whether you've been playing Dungeons & Dragons for ages or you're just looking to try it out, come to the library Saturdays at 2:00 and join in the fun.
Reminders:
  • The Literacy Council of Southwestern PA is offering English as a Second Language classes at the library every Tuesday at 10:30.
  • Canon-McMillan students are able to earn Accelerated Reading points at the library. We have a computer in the Children's Department reserved exclusively for testing.
  • Online homework, tutoring and job search assistance is just a click away! Help is available 24/7 through our HelpNow! and JobNow! databases. To access these resources, visit our website.
  • Our used book sale continues and new titles are being added all the time...you can stock up on books for the winter for just $5 per bag!
