National Geographic Toy Review

This week's feature - puzzles!

August 29, 2012
We are into week 3 of our Uncle Milton National Geographic Toy Review.  This week we are talking puzzles.  Puzzles are a favorite toy of mine. Yes I called puzzles a toy. My kids love puzzles. They don't realize that they are learning problem solving skills while doing them! I was able to sneak these in as birthday gifts. Shh, don't tell my kids. Once all the gifts were open this is the first thing they wanted to do. We all worked together to put this turtle together.

I love that it is something we can all do together. The pieces are big enough that my now 3 year old can participate and fit the pieces together easily with a little direction.  There are 46 pieces to this puzzle. My kids have always danced on their floor puzzles when they finish them. It gives them a great sense of accomplishment and pride. They never seem to get bored of doing puzzles over and over again either! Puzzles are an activity that I love to do with the kids. I have enjoyed doing puzzles with both kids. We start at a young age with wooden board puzzles and graduate into these puzzles.

Our next puzzle was a 150 piece beautiful peacock. The box said it is for ages 5 and up.  This one took a little longer and teaches patience. We still had a 3 year old helper. We had to find him the right piece and tell him to turn it to make it fit. My 7 year old loved this one. It was much more of a challenge for her. It is a beautiful puzzle. It is shiny just like a peacock.

These are just a small sampling of these
