During the week Pittsburgh, PA set a new record for the warmest February day ever recorded. It was beautiful, and we sure enjoyed the warmth of the sunshine on our faces and soaked up every second. What was in the back of my mind? We were leaving in just a few days for a ski trip. It was a little north, however, rain and above freezing temperatures were in the forecast there as well. That did not sound like a good recipe for skiing that weekend. We drove through the dismal rain and vowed to make the best of whatever lay ahead for the weekend. As we got closer to our destination, I disappointingly noticed that there was still no snow on the ground.
We pulled up to the Inn at Peek n’ Peak and everything changed. The magic of the mountains took over. The slopes were covered with beautiful white snow! Then we pulled into what looked like an old-world castle. We were warmly greeted at the front desk and the hospitality didn’t end there. Everyone was so friendly. We explored and walked around. We checked out the indoor pool area, then stepped outside and took in the refreshing mountain air. We grabbed a snack which may have just been the best brownies I have ever tasted. They were melt in your mouth gooeyness with just the right amount of crisp at the top. Gosh, I want another one right now!!
After a restful nights sleep we were excited to hit the slopes. The Inn conveniently had a delicious buffet in the Bistro located inside the building. It was super affordable at $10 for adults and $5 for kids and that included drinks We ate quickly so we could get outside. The freshly groomed slopes were a treat and conditions were great considering the rain they had that week. The slopes were nice and wide allowing my daughter lots of room to get comfortable on skis the first time this season. We found that the best time to hit the slopes is when the forecast looks grim. No long lift lines or crowds – it was the best skiing I’d had in years!!
The food was awesome too. I already mentioned breakfast in the Bistro, and we had another fun meal fireside at the Sugar Shack that evening. But the most noteworthy is that they also had a full-service Starbucks right inside the inn! No need to drive anywhere. Just wake up and head downstairs for your fix! Venti vanilla latte please. All the modern accommodations you want while escaping to the mountains.
This resort is perfect for young families. The nice wide slopes are ideal for families and beginners and everything you need is conveniently located right there in walking distance. We did not need ski lessons but others in our group did and they said the instructors were fantastic. Oh, and they give you a complementary s'mores package when you check in. My kids LOVE s'mores and fires and all that fun stuff. It was a treat to be outside roasting our marshmallows on the fire in the winter. It offered everything you could want and things you didn't even know you wanted.I truly fell in love with this place. I can’t wait to bring our whole family next year and get our youngest on skis for the first time.
Please note: Our trip in New York was hosted, but opinions are purely my own.
