Summer Bucket List In The Burg and Beyond

Best ideas for fun right here from Washington County to Pittsburgh PA

Doesn't summer always feel like it flies by in the blink of an eye? Before you know it summer's over and you haven't done everything you wanted. Don't waste a single day. Start a bucket list now!

There are so many great things to do so close to home. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to have fun. Many of the things listed below are free. Here are some local ideas you may wish to add to your list. If you have a great place that I missed, feel free to comment below with any you’d like to add.

Go to a WildThings Game (Register for a FREE Kids Membership and Kids Eat Free Sundays)

Fresh fruit picking and other seasonal festivals at local farms throughout the summer (Simmons, The SpringHouse, Triple B, to name a few)

Visit the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

A trip to the Zoo

Check out the Steelers training camp in July (reserve your free tickets NOW)

Local Community Days - North Strabane,  Peters Twp,  Chartiers-Houston

A day trip to Mingo Park (or check out some of their special events listed in our calendar)

A bike ride on the Montour Trail - be sure to stop in and grab a bite to eat at Nobby's Pizza, Subs, & Sandwiches
Need bikes? We have rented them right on the trail at the Tandem Connection where Nobby's is located.

Meet some friends at the park for a playdate

A trip to the “beach” at Raccoon Creek State Park

An afternoon/evening to downtown Pittsburgh – There are so many things to do that the options are endless but here are some of our favorites:

A trip to Station Square to watch the dancing fountains, dine outside with a view, ride on the incline, and browse around the shops

A duckboat tour of the city

A show in the city

The Three Rivers Arts Festival (early summer)

Kennywood, Idlewild, or Sandcastle 

The Watersteps near PNC Park 

Pirate Game

Sprayparks – Wiltshire park looks fun or here’s a link to some in Pittsburgh


Old School fun ... don’t forget to let the kids stay up late to catch lightning bugs...

And have a campfire with smores!

Have a pj day …. With an indoor picnic lunch. Just spread a blanket out in your family room and have a feast – kids love it!!

Actually, make up your bucket list...You can grab a cute bucket and write down all the things you want to do on clothespins. (Here's an example) Then when you do something listed on a pin, just toss that pin in the bucket.

I hope this list can help hold off the "mom I'm bored" - for a while at least!
