Let’s Move Pittsburgh Launches Virtual Book Club for Kids

Phipps Conservatory’s Children’s Health Program Series to Encourage Healthy Habits

September 8, 2021

Let’s Move Pittsburgh, a children’s health program of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, is pleased to announce the launch of an all new free virtual program, the Let’s Move Pittsburgh Book Club. Starting Tues., Sept. 7, kids ages 4 – 9 are invited to read the book of the week that the LMP team has selected and join in on a virtual discussion about the book.

Books chosen for discussion focus on one of the four key messages of LMP’s 5-2-1-0 initiative, which encourages kids to have 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables, 2 hours or less of recreational screen time, 1 hour or more of physical activity, and 0 sugary drinks and more water every day. Free virtual discussions with book club members will take place each Tuesday from Sept. 7 through December from 4 – 4:30 p.m. LMP Book Club picks can be found at The Shop at Phipps or at your local Carnegie Library.

“The Let’s Move Pittsburgh Book Club was created to foster healthy habits and a love of reading. Our hope is that book selections will encourage family discussion about healthy habits and a love of reading" says Let’s Move Pittsburgh Senior Program Manager Heather Shannon.

Let’s Move Pittsburgh the LMP Book Club are sponsored in part by UPMC Health Plan. Learn more and register at phipps.conservatory.org/LMPBookClub.
