This year, the “greatest growth on earth” becomes one giant-sized, “drive-by display” of carved and playfully painted prolific pumpkins!
Mother nature’s most vivacious, outrageous, humongous fruits…in one monster exhibit on the north shore.
It’s time Pittsburgh for a little pumpkinsanity to help offset all the frustration, anxiety and pent-up energy brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic …a pumpkin pause for everyone’s cause if you will. And what better way to put some liveliness back into life than a spectacle of colorfully colossal cucurbits! Like all things in 2020 so far, the City’s signature Fall event—the Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkins Festival—has to adjust to the times for now.
How
A “popup” because it will magically transform Gold Parking Lot 1A in front of Heinz Field into a temporary gallery of ginormous gourds turned into works of art by some of world’s most talented carvers. We’ll paint a few too using some well known local muralists…. delightfully decorate and illuminate it at night to give the city one ghoulishly gargantuan greeting at Halloween. But remember, this is a drive-by event only…due to the virus safety restrictions expected to be in place…the exhibit can only be viewed while inside your vehicle. Don’t worry…with pumpkins this big and set so close to the road…you’ll easily see it all…all the while shaking your head in disbelief!
