CARNEGIE SCIENCE CENTER ANNOUNCES FALL OF EVENTS, EXHIBITS

At a Tech Tour, visitors can journey behind the scenes of USS Requin, the Cold War-era submarine moored on the Ohio River. Tours teach visitors about how the submarine and its crew faced challenges. Tour-goers can explore un-restored compartments and climb up the Conning Tower to see the periscope. Advance registration is necessary. Full mobility is required.
Cost: $15 members/$20 non-members per session.

Munchkin Mondays, Mondays from 10 am – 2 pm, Sept. 8 – Oct. 27
Munchkin Mondays are full of activities for the smallest scientists, early learners ages 2–6! Preschoolers will get up close to exciting science concepts, while having tons of fun with hands-on activities and socializing with other little learners.
Activities include: Story time, make-and-takes, and planetarium and live demo shows just for preschoolers. Activities are included with Science Center admission.
 
Café Scientifique: Cutting-edge science discussions and a chance to ask questions.
    Café Sci presents “Tree Genetic Diversity”: Oct. 6. Dr. Cynthia Morton, of Carnegie Museum of Natural History, will speak.
    Café Sci presents “The Beginning of the Universe … and Dust in Our Galaxy:” Nov. 10. Dr. Arthur Kosowsky, of University of Pittsburgh, will speak.

Laser Halloween, Oct. 10 – Nov. 2
Spooky lasers, eerie darkness, ghoulish tunes, and frightful guests! Get into the Halloween spirit with the Addams Family, the Ghostbusters, and Beetlejuice. Do the Monster Mash, the Time Warp, and your own ghastly dance. Bring the whole family for this chillin’ good time!
 
Space Out Astronomy Weekend, Oct. 11-12
Discover how to navigate the stars, get an up-close look at planets and meteorites, learn all about telescopes, and more! Explore space through hands-on activities, contests, special guests, and interactive tables, and travel through the universe in the Buhl Planetarium.

Jerusalem film screening and inter-faith panel discussion, Oct. 13
Learn what Jerusalem means to experts representing Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Spooky Science Sleepover, Oct. 24
A frightfully fun evening guaranteed to make your hair stand on end … literally! It’s a deliciously gross, ghastly good time to be had by all young witches, wizards, and monsters.  Activities include a spooky live science demonstration, a family Halloween laser show, a late-night snack, and a continental breakfast.
 
Great Pumpkin Smash, Nov. 1
What do you do with a jack-o’-lantern after Halloween? Roll it off the Science Center’s roof, of course! Join smash-ologists for our Great Pumpkin Smash, which features (explosive!) pumpkin-related demos throughout the day. It’s a physics-filled compostable event you don’t want to miss!
 
Jammie Jam, Nov. 7
Bring your little learners to the Science Center for an evening of themed activities for ages 2-6! You and your preschooler will experience make-and-take activities, a live theater show, and story time. Plus, you'll have access to four floors of exhibits and enjoy a snack. Children are encouraged to come in their pajamas!
 
The Miniature Railroad & Village® closes for maintenance on Oct. 6 and reopens Nov. 28. The Miniature Railroad & Village® preview for museum members will be held on Nov. 19.

Light Up Night® Sleepover, Nov. 21
